[8] 有些作家质疑这段最后出现在《海盗通史》的对话的真实性，是谁记录这段对话的？答案是毕尔本人。这名船长和贝勒米见面过后，被安置在“玛丽安”号上。他有一段时间无事可做，可以记录这段历史对话。一两个星期后，他被释放到布洛克岛上，日期是四月二十九日。他出现在新港，把自己的这段遭遇告诉《波士顿新闻通讯》的记者。几乎可以确认这段对话的细节是由罗得岛当局记录，并送到伦敦的。《海盗通史》作者便是在伦敦取得这份资料的。
