当初出于对全球史鼻祖威廉·麦克尼尔的崇敬，我欣然接受了翻译他撰写的《世界史》一书的任务。历经几个春秋和周折，本书如今终由中信出版社付梓。本书第一、第二、第三部分由施诚翻译，第四部分由赵婧翻译，李大伟对第四部分进行了校译。感谢首都师范大学历史学院岳秀坤推介本书译稿到中信出版社。感谢首都师范大学刘新成教授的鞭策和鼓舞，使我有勇气和毅力完成了本书的译工作。最后，感谢我妻子刘对我工作的支持。
